The story happens in Jiang Nan in the 1930's. The sealthy Family Gao adopts three children: Gao Meiren, Li Sansi and A Kun.

　　With Gao Meiren's arrival comes unexpected fortune to the Gao Family, hence the Gao Family treasure her as their fortune luck, and spoil her to the utmost. When Gao Meiren grows up, however her father marries her to Li Sansi against her own will. Li Sansi turns out to be his father's illegal child with a maiden. Quite unware of his identity, Li plots to gain Gao Meiren's heart so that he could snap the family's fortune.

　　On the eve of Gao Meiren's birthday. Li especially sends for a carpenter, Lai Jintu to build a picturesque boat for her, the carpentcr turns out to be Zhou Meiyun's husband. Zhou Meiyun who is Gao Meiren's twin sister, though bom with the same beautiful face and figure, her fate is quiet different.
